Description

These two pen-and-ink drawings on a single sheet show trees and plants along the trail. The drawing is signed and dated in pencil and labeled: “Alum Cave Trail above Alum Cave.” Irving Rhodes Fromer (1913-1994) was a self-taught artist who was employed by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the 1930s. He worked for both the TVA and the National Park Service and later lived in California, where he was known for creating socially conscious art.
