Description

This pen-and-ink drawing is of a clump of sand myrtle shrubs with a branch of laurel or rhododendron protruding above tops of shrubs. The drawing is signed and dated in pencil and labeled: “Myrtle Point.” Irving Rhodes Fromer (1913-1994) was a self-taught artist who was employed by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the 1930s. He worked for both the TVA and the National Park Service and later lived in California, where he was known for creating socially conscious art.
