Description

This photograph was taken of a burned area around Dry Sluice Gap. It was burned in 1925 and by 1927, young cherry trees were growing over most of the burned area. The picture, with others in this series, are included in the records of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club, formed after a group of outdoor enthusiasts hiked up to Mount LeConte in October 1924. The photographer is unknown. The back of the picture is stamped “Jim Thompson Co.,” indicating it was probably printed by hiking club member James E. (Jim) Thompson (1880-1976).
