Description

This topographical U.S. Geological Survey Map of 1926 indicates the proposed boundaries of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, including both North Carolina and Tennessee. The proposed southern boundary runs along the Tuckasegee River and takes in much of Jackson County. These lines were moved northward as park boundaries took shape. This particular map was signed by David C. Chapman (1876-1944), a champion of the park movement and member of the Great Smoky Mountains Conservation Association.
