Description

This map from 1930 shows part of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Ironically, the park was not established until 1934 and not dedicated until 1940, so this map from 1930 anticipates the coming of the park. The area shown on the map was surveyed by Aerotopograph Corporation of America. The map includes sections of the park in both North Carolina and Tennessee. This map was one of many collected by Horace Kephart (1862-1931). Shows proposed national park boundaries. Also shows roadways, waterways, trails and select named landforms. Relief shown by contours and spot heights; contour interval 100 feet.
