Description
Little is known about J.D. Chaffin, the artist who made these drawings. Most likely, Chaffin was an enrollee in one of the 22 CCC camps in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Almost all of the pen-and-ink sketches in this series are of flora and fauna of the region, with a few of cultural artifacts and trail scenes. All of the drawings are signed and dated, most to 1937.
