Description

Indian Gap was the original pass through the Great Smoky Mountains. In the mid-1930s it was replaced by Newfound Gap Road two miles to the east. Newfound Gap Road is also highway 441. These hikers pose between on the Tennessee - North Carolina state line between Newfound Gap and Indian Gap. The picture is in the collection of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club, an organization that formed after a group of outdoor enthusiasts hiked up to Mount LeConte in October 1924.
