Description
In this photograph, hiker Fred Shulley is putting up an Appalachian Trail sign on state line between Sugartree Gap and Silers Bald. The photograph was made in 1932 by Albert Gordon "Dutch" Roth (1890-1974), an avid photographer and one of the founders of the hiking club. The picture is in the collection of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club, an organization that formed after a group of outdoor enthusiasts hiked up to Mount LeConte in October 1924.
