Description
On the reverse of this image is written, "Santeetlah Dam of Aluminum Co. of America ---- Dam being built in sections ---- March 25, 1927; Arch type construction in center; Gravity type at ends" and is in the collection of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club. The Club was formed after a group of outdoor enthusiasts hiked up to Mount LeConte in October 1924. Santeetlah Dam was built for hydroelectric generation on the Cheoah River in Graham County, North Carolina. The Santeetlah Project began in 1925 and was completed in 1928.
