The skyline road, or “Skyway” from Newfound Gap to Kuwohi (Clingmans Dome 1859-2024) was the first major road project undertaken by the federal government in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Constructed between 1933 and 1935, originally, the road was planned to continue on to Deals Gap.
