Toineeta, Joshua M., 1929-2011 -- Interviews
Description
In this audio interview, Tom Baker interviews Josh Toineeta, a logger on the Cherokee Reservation. Toineeta talks about getting started by logging along Washington Creek. He recalls that Owen Littlejohn used a steer for logging. Toineeta’s father hauled timber from Cherry Cove before the chestnut blight. Toineeta used a boom skidder and practiced cable logging. He worked with Boyd Littlejohn and talked about the dangers of logging. This interview, along with others, was created by long-time forester, Tom Baker. Baker interviewed men who worked in the timber industry to create an oral history of logging operations in western North Carolina. Included with each interview is a transcript of the audio file.
