This 16-page article, “The Last of the Eastern Wilderness: An Article on the Proposed Great Smoky National Park,” is a classic piece by Horace Kephart. The article appeared in the 1926 edition of the magazine “World’s Work.” The article includes photographs by James E. (Jim) Thompson (1880-1976) was a noted photographer, hiker, and outdoor enthusiast who played a major role in promoting a national park in the Southern Appalachians. Horace Kephart (1862-1931) was noted naturalist, woodsman, journalist, and author and promoter of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Throughout his life, Kephart wrote many articles supporting the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The article is shown here along with several versions of the original typed manuscript.
