Description
Phyllis Higginbotham was the first nurse hired by the Pi Beta Phi sorority that operated a school in Gatlinburg. Higginbotham rode her horse, Prince, into the mountains to tend the needs of the people. In the 1920s there were little medical or educational services in the mountains. The Pi Beta Phi sorority worked to fill some of the local needs.
