Description

The back of this photograph is labeled “North Carolina Park Commission timber cruisers.” The picture, made about 1928, includes a party of men scouting with surveying equipment. In 1924, the legislature of North Carolina established the North Carolina Park Commission to set boundaries and purchase land for the new park. No doubt, this group was one of several who surveyed the area within the boundaries of the proposed Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
