Description
This 248-page bound notebook contains the minutes of the meetings of the Appalachian National Park Association and the Appalachian National Forest Reserve Association. The Appalachian National Park Association was formed in 1899 for the purpose of promoting the idea of a national park in the eastern U.S. The association changed its name in 1903 when the establishment of a national park met with opposition and it, instead, lobbied for a forest reserve. In fact, throughout its existence, the association often interchanged the terms “national park” and “forest reserve,” while these two bodies are very different. The association disbanded in 1905.
