Description
This 8-page talk on “The Proposed Appalachian National Forest Reserve” was drafted by Professor J. A. Holmes in 1901. Among other points made by Holmes is his call for the “protection and perpetuation of the forests of this country, especially of the mountain forests about the sources of our important streams, must be recognized as a national problem.” Holmes was a professor of geology and natural history at the University of North Carolina from 1881-1903. His speech is in the collection of the Appalachian National Park Association records.
