Description

The Appalachian National Park Association was formed in 1899 for the purpose of promoting the idea of a national park in the eastern U.S. In this 4-page communique written within weeks of its organization, the association adopted the magazine, “Southern Pictures and Pencillings,” as the official organ of the association. The publication was produced by A. H. McQuilkin, a Chicago-based editor who moved to Asheville, North Carolina in the mid-1890s and became involved with the association.
