Description

In this letter of April 14, 1926, George Washington Carver writes to Mrs. J.H. (Margaret Gillespie) Slagle, informing her of his concerns about a delay in the work of the Carver Products Company regarding paint production before discussing his desire to teach and mentor her son and the difficulty that race relations in the South pose to that endeavor. He indicates that he hears from her son regularly and writes about what he has learned from him about his education before discussing the possibility of visiting him in Washington during a planned trip to Los Angeles. He briefly mentions his gratitude at Mr. Slagle's improving health and her son's religious faith before discussing how Mrs. Slagle's interest in nature has passed to her son. He then reiterates his hopes of teaching her son and closes by thanking Mrs. Slagle for her letter and offering his prayers for her family, with special emphasis on Mr. Slagle's health.
