Kephart, Horace, 1862-1931

This photograph appears with the caption "Wilson & Cook's Mill" in Album. This mill was featured in a variety of Kephart's publications. It appeared in "Our Southern Highlanders" (1922 revised ed., p. 48, and 1921 ed, p. 152) as "A Tub Mill." It also appeared in Kephart's series "The Mountain Highlander" (part II, "The Back of Beyond," "Outing Magazine," January 1913, p. 404) as "Wilson's Tub-Mill." Kephart does mention in his journals that all the mills in the vicinity of Medlin, North Carolina, were tub mills.
