Description

Pack Square during World War I. Save Food sign on square. Pershing's Crusaders playing at The Magestic-sign on trolly. For years the Pack Square area was a resting place for hog drivers on the Buncombe Turnpike. In 1880 the mayor named the meeting place Court Square. Not until 1900 was the square given its currnet name after George Willis Pack, a local philanthopist.
