Description
In a letter to Senator Mark Squires on October 13, 1925, Horace Kephart discusses correspondence from Reuben B. Robertson, President of Champion Fibre Company, regarding Robertson’s opposition to the booklet of the Smoky Mountain National Park’s price per acre of land. He believes Mr. Robertson’s conclusion that the cost of timber at $25 an acre is incorrect and overpriced. Kephart assures Mr. Squires that the booklet was based on facts and approved by members of the Federal Commission, supporting it as a credible resource. Senator Mark Squires (1878-1938) from Lenoir, North Carolina was a member of the North Carolina Park Commission and helped obtain funding to establish a national park in the 1920s.
