In a letter to Horace Kephart and others on August 2, 1926, Calvin I. Kephart informs them about their family history originating as “von Uesenberg barons of southern Baden, thru a Gabhart von Uesenberg, born about 1255”. Mr. Kephart explains there may be a possible relationship to Gebhart von Thann indicated by the research documents from the Library of Congress. He cautions his family members about these speculative findings, but believes the Gebhart family was first Alsatian (French) and then migrated to Switzerland after 1400.
