Description

Horace Kephart writes his family on February 16, 1929 sending them a copy of a letter from Will C. Barnes, Secretary for the United States Geographic Board, regarding the decision to name a mountain in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains, Mount Kephart. The rare decision to name a geographic feature after a living person was made on October 3, 1928.
