Description

In this speech Robert L. Madison (1867–1954) is asking for money to provide training for teachers in rural communities or to at least make a beginning in providing such training in Cullowhee, if not in other areas of the state. Madison is considered as the founder of Western Carolina University and served as the first president of Cullowhee High School, later Cullowhee Normal and Industrial School, from 1889-1912 and from 1920-1923.
