This newspaper article from the News and Observer announces the installation of a fountain which will be placed as a marker of the original building where Robert Lee Madison (1867-1954) began Western Carolina Teachers College. Madison, considered as the founder of Western Carolina University, served as the first president of Cullowhee High School, later Cullowhee Normal and Industrial School, from 1889-1912 and from 1920-1923.
