Description

The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church was founded in 1892 by eleven former slaves. In 1929, the building and the surrounding property were sold to Cullowhee State Normal School for a sum of $3,200. The church was relocated to a nearby location and the school additionally paid for the relocation and reburial of the remains in the seventy-six graves on the property. Robertson Dormitory was built on the site of the church.
