This 1940 photograph taken by W. Newton Turner (1910-1995) shows football coaches (left to right) Brandon, Ralph Andrews, James Whatley (head coach), and R. McDonald on Hunter Field. Cullowhee Baptist Church is visible in the background. Turner began teaching as an assistant professor of geology and geography in 1937 and filled a variety of roles before retiring on December 29, 1971 as Vice President of Western Carolina University.
