Description

Erica Smiley interviews Franklin "Frank" Glenn Buchanan (1934-2012) on October 20, 2004. They discuss his life and experiences as a Bluegrass musician. Frank Buchanan was a mandolin player that began his career playing with his older brother on the radio. After his brother’s death he joined Bill Monroe as one of his “Bluegrass Boys”. He explains who his influences are and how they helped him grow as a musician as well as the awards he has received throughout the years. They also discuss the differences between traditional and contemporary bluegrass and how bluegrass has changed through the years. Includes photographs of Buchanan and his instrument.
