Description

Published in 1890, Thomas H. Lindsey’s Guide Book to Western North Carolina was one of the first pictorial guide books to describe the southern Appalachians. According to the author, the small 98-page booklet was intended to be of interest to the “Tourist and Health-seeker” as well as visitors to the “Land of the Sky.” The booklet covers sites in and around Asheville, North Carolina during a period when various rail lines were being constructed and tourism was beginning to have an impact on the region.
