Description
Lake Toxaway with the Toxaway Inn in the distance. The inn could reportedly accomodate up to 500 guests at a time, while other publications at the time stated fewer. Advertising was restricted to the wealthy and many came including Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, John Burrows, and R. J. Reynolds. Henry Scadin, was hired as a promotional photographer for the Toxaway Inn. Henry Scadin did a lot of work for the Toxaway company between 1897-1903 documenting the construction of the Lake(s). It is possible that the job, under Mr. Hayes, owner of the company, brought Scadin and his family permanently to North Carolina from Michigan.
