Abstract

Current research is not conclusive on the efficacy of neurofeedback. This study evaluated the effectiveness of neurofeedback as a treatment for college students with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder symptoms. Participants' pre-intervention symptomatology was assessed. Half of the participants then participated in an average of 15 sessions of neurofeedback. The other group engaged in a related task resembling neurofeedback for an average of 15 sessions. The participants' symptomatology was again assessed following the completion of several sessions. It was expected that the number of ADHD symptoms would decrease for both groups. It was also expected that the number of ADHD symptoms for participants receiving neurofeedback would decrease more than the symptoms for the control group. Results supported the first hypothesis in that following the treatment period all participants showed a significant decline in ADHD symptoms. No support was found for the second hypothesis. This study aims to add to the current literature on neurofeedback.
