Abstract

For the paintings in my thesis exhibition, I created dynamic spaces using fruits and vegetables as recognizable subject matter. Overloading the paintings with organic shapes and vibrant color. I have emphasized the seductive qualities in common objects. Organic patterns have zigzagged in dancing rhythms around lush fruits and vegetables, enticing the viewer. Both the pattern and object have biomorphic qualities that cause them to creep around the densely packed canvases. In domestic life, produce is expected to occupy a relaxed space while in my paintings the spaces are unstable, as patterns move around and through the objects. The active and surprising compositions change the experience of seeing these objects, as they form a totally new configuration. I have used the pattern in these paintings to manipulate the space around the objects, defying the seemingly secure compositions. Fluctuating between deep and shallow space, the paintings expand and contract.
