Abstract

A search for the' figure in sculpture compels my thesis exploration. These sculptures are figments, conveyors of form through the intuitive. Plaster and paper transforms to image, the figure rises from chaos and desperation. The resulting sculptures are fretful and loose, playful and grotesque, charged and seductive. They are from memory, latent shadows of dreams and experiences grappling with the conventions of the modeling stand and the tradition that goes with it. The sculptures themselves become an essay about sculptural search- about sculpture finding itself on a pedestal, tentative and uneasy with its place in hi story. In the final analysis, this thesis attempts the crystallization of the sculpture object in real time and space. The experience of looking at the work shifts with suggestions relating to the internalized and emerging image
