The history of America can be seen in the history of quilts: in the rich heritage left us by those thrifty, self-sufficient women who helped settle this land. Continuing this legacy is a group of quilt makers—Cowee Quilters in Macon County, NC—comprised of local women who meet at the Cowee Volunteer Fire & Rescue facility on Cowee Mountain. Each year they produce a quilt as a fundraiser for the volunteer fire station, plus other quilting projects. Within this group of interviews, you will hear first the voices of Frankabelle Scruggs, Emily McBride and Mary Lee Duval in reprisal interviews from 2012, and then current interviews from Frankabelle Scruggs and Cathy Bischof. We want to thank you ladies, for continuing a craft that has been around since before our country began…centuries of sewing history one patch, one stitch at a time!
