Description
Amy begins the show with the first of a series of segments devoted to reading the play Samantha Bumgarner and the History of Mountain String Music, which was produced in 2001 by CSA and the 4th grade students of Jackson County. “The Old Guitar” accompanies the story. On Creative Corner, Doreyl talks with Doris Hunter about the upcoming Hard Candy Christmas show and the crafters and artists who will be participating. The interview is followed by “Grandma’s Feather Bed” by the Company Store. Amy’s guest on Stories of Mountain Folk is Bill Crawford, a walking historian of Jackson County. He shares some of his memories of downtown Sylva and the people who lived and worked in the town. “Dancing on the Mountaintop” by the Foxfire Boys follows the interview. On This Is My Home, Joe talks with Jeff Sauer, a former employee of Hunter Library at Western Carolina University who lived in Jackson County from 1979 to 1986. He shares some memories of the people he knew here and his love for the area. “Little Cabin Home on the Hill” by Lonesome Sound follows the interview. On Down Another Road, Judy talks once again with Winona Eye of Cullowhee, who shares some of her memories of Camp Laboratory School. She and Judy also talk about women in Appalachia as well as the women in her family. The interview is followed by “Camp a Little While in the Wilderness” by Sheila Kay Adams, and the show wraps up with “Running Wolf” by Keith Shuler.
