Description

The show begins with Amy sharing how Catch the Spirit of Appalachia began with “Blue Ridge Mountains Call for Me.” The background music is “My Heart Will Go On.” On Creative Corner, Doreyl welcomes author Marcia Barnes from Hiawassee, Ga. Marcia recounts how she began her writing career and reads a Christmas poem. She also talks briefly about traditional food at Christmas. “When You Wish Upon a Star” by Jo Northup & Richard Birt follows the interview. Amy’s guest on Stories of Mountain Folk is once again Fran Rogers from Clyde. Fran continues her series of stories from her father’s childhood. The interview is followed by “The Old Rugged Cross” by the Cockman Family. On Stories of the Cherokee, Shawn talks about “Change and the Cherokee.” The Cherokee people experienced great change when their home and lands were taken from them. Once again, change has come as Stories of Mountain Folk will cease to be broadcast on WRGC. Shawn thanks Amy and Neal for the opportunity to share the Stories of the Cherokee. Flute music is provided by Matthew Tooni. On Down Another Road, Judy talks about a 2007 interview she did with Mary Jane Queen. Mary Jane shares her feelings on being called a hillbilly, some memories of her favorite ballads as well as memories of growing up in the mountains. The segment concludes with “Little Black Mustache” by Mary Jane Queen. The show closes with “Jingle Bells” by Nashville Sessions.
