Dublin Core
Title
Pulpwood and Tanning Extract Industries
Subject
Appalachian Mountains
Description
The report by J.S. Holmes, Forest Conditions in Western North Carolina, published in 1911, contained a two-part image that was captioned in the table of contents as 'Pulpwood and Tanning Extract Industries.' The individual captions on the plate for the pictures were (A) 'Spruce pulpwood, from flume to cars,' and (B) 'Chestnut extract wood in yard of Cherokee Tanning Extract Co., Andrews.' While the bottom caption specifically mentions Andrews, N.C., the top caption, 'Spruce pulpwood,' does explicitly indicate it is in Andrews.
