Description

By the time this postcard view of the Jarrett Springs Hotel in Dillsboro, N.C., was mailed in 1910, the hotel was already twenty-five years old. The property opened in 1884 as the Mount Beulah Hotel and was conveniently located along the Murphy Branch of the Southern Railway. Ten years later, Robert Frank Jarrett acquired the property and renamed it Jarrett Springs Hotel. This picture shows the hotel before the building to the right was incorporated into the larger structure. The Southern Railway's tour guide Summer in 'The Land of the Sky': Resorts Along the Southern Railway (Chicago: Poole, 1915) indicated that Jarrett Springs Hotel had a capacity of 40 guests, with average rates of $2.00 daily, $8.00 and up weekly, and $30.00 and up monthly.
