Description
This late 1920s brochure for Waynesville, N.C., compiled by the Waynesville Chamber of Commerce, featured 'Hotels, Apartments, and Inns -- A List of Accommodations' (Waynesville, N.C.: The Haywood Print Shop). As in the heyday of the railway, the left panel of the brochure notes that 'Waynesville is the highest incorporated railroad town in Eastern America' and also promotes its stance as 'the nearest gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.' The text on the reverse side indicates that, 'This is a partial list of hotels, apartments, boarding houses, inns and rooms in private homes in which guests of Waynesville may find satisfactory accommodations.' Rooming categories listed on the reverse page include 'Hotels and Inns,' 'Rooms and Board,' 'Rooms Only and Apartments,' with most listings providing Daily Rates, Weekly Rates, and Cap'y (capacity). A notable piece of information that can be detected from the accommodations list is the number of women who are named as the operators of the lodgings.
