Description

This illustration from Wilbur G. Zeigler and Ben S. Grosscup's late 19th century travel narrative, 'Heart of the Alleghanies' (p. 375), is captioned, 'Mt. Pisgah (5,763 feet above sea). View from Swannanoa Hotel' (p. 375). The Swannanoa Hotel was located in Asheville, N.C. Concerning Mt. Pisgah, the authors assert that, 'This latter peak is a famous height for the sight-seer. It is easily accessible, and from its summit the view is almost boundless. The broad valleys, watered by the Hominy and French Broad, stretch toward the eastern limit' (p. 123).
