Description

These 10 leave passes dated from June 16, 1943 to June 17, 1945 were obtained by Robert “Venoy” Reed during his time in the Army. Venoy Reed entered the United States Army October, 1942 during World War II. He became a medic and landed in Normandy, France at the Omaha beachhead on June 16th, 1944 ten days after D-Day. Captured by German forces, Reed was a prisoner of war from January 19, 1945 to April 29, 1945. He returned to Jackson County, North Carolina and married Mary Elizabeth “Lizzie” Hope (1920-2016) June 2, 1946.
