This undated and untitled personal narrative is 6 handwritten legal size pages and gives a daily account of Robert Venoy Reed’s experiences in the European theater of war. Venoy Reed entered the United States Army October, 1942 during World War II. He became a medic and landed in Normandy, France at the Omaha beachhead on June 16th, 1944 ten days after D-Day. Captured by German forces, Reed was a prisoner of war from January 19, 1945 to April 29, 1945. He returned to Jackson County, North Carolina and married Mary Elizabeth “Lizzie” Hope (1920-2016) on June 2, 1946.
