Description

Castanea dentata (Marshall) Borkh. Tryon Peak. West of Columbus, NC on Skyuka Road, west from ridgetop on old road to Tryon Peak. Elev about 975 m (3200 ft). Several stum-sprouted trees to about 6 or 8 m tall noted fruiting. (The first American chestnuts I had opportunity to eat.) 4 Oct 1975. [fruiting specimen]
