Description

Ann Melton is a native of Jackson County and has written fourteen books about western North Carolina, including her 2019 book entitled "The History of Blackwood Lumber Company: East LaPorte, North Carolina and the Flood of 1940." She discusses her family members who were employed by the Blackwood Lumber Company, the extreme difficulty of the lumbering business, and the economic impact the company brought to Jackson County. She tells stories of how the flood affected the residents of Jackson County, including one story about a runaway chicken house.
