Description
Cephus Fanning Shook (1875-1957) is sitting at the head of the table with family. His second wife Hattie Thomas Shook (1880-1963) is at the far end and his son Herschal Shook is to his left. Cephus is the son of Henry Clay Shook and Eugenia Evans Shook and the great, great grandson of Jacob Shook (1749-1839) and Isabella Weitzell Shook (1749-1834). After serving in the American Revolutionary War, Jacob Shook and his wife bought land and settled along the Pigeon River in what is now Clyde, N.C. Shook built the earliest known frame dwelling in the area which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Shook-Welch-Smathers House.
