Description

This photograph taken by Lewis Ellsworth shows the wood yard for the Mead Corporation Sylva Division circa 1949. Mead opened a plant producing paper for cardboard boxes just east of downtown Sylva in 1928. They expanded in 1955 and closed in 1974 due to environmental concerns. In 1995, the property became home to Jackson Paper Manufacturing Company, a recycle-based operation.
