Description

View of a train in the wood yard for the Mead Corporation Sylva Division circa 1949, with the wood stacked high on either side of the tracks. Mead opened a plant producing paper for cardboard boxes just east of downtown Sylva in 1928. They expanded in 1955 and closed in 1974 due to environmental concerns. In 1955, the property was home to Jackson Paper Manufacturing Company, a recycle-based operation.
