This 1960 Swain County High School senior class photograph was taken in front of the United States Capitol building in Washington D.C. while it was undergoing its final phases of a dome restoration project. The last of the scaffolding is still in place. Each year from as early as 1953 until about 2015, Swain County seniors took a trip from Bryson City, North Carolina to the District of Columbia with high school teachers as their chaperones. Until 1970 the trip was made by a combination of bus and train via Southern Railway. Starting in 1971 a bus was taken the entire way. All names are read left to right.
