Description
Cattle graze on a steep roadside hill on Ed Floyd’s land, 4 miles east of Bryson City. The reverse of the photo reads “cattle grazing fescue and ladino pasture seeded fall of 1957. This is steep class VI land.” This photo is from the Tuckaseigee Soil & Water Conservation District, which was formed in western North Carolina in 1957 and became the Swain Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) in 1982. The Swain SWCD’s mission is to provide for a quality environment and higher standard of living while protecting natural resources. The Swain SWCD photographs capture various SWCD projects throughout Swain, Jackson, Graham, Haywood, and surrounding counties in western North Carolina.
