Description
A drainage ditch on Reuben Harwood’s farm, in the Tallulah area of Graham County. A man is standing next to the ditch in the center of the photo, holding a long pole to measure depth. A barn can be seen in the background. This photo is from the Tuckaseigee Soil & Water Conservation District, which was formed in western North Carolina in 1957 and became the Swain Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) in 1982. The Swain SWCD’s mission is to provide for a quality environment and higher standard of living while protecting natural resources. The Swain SWCD photographs capture various SWCD projects throughout Swain, Jackson, Graham, Haywood, and surrounding counties in western North Carolina.
